This product introduces students to the rights and responsibilities of citizens at home, school, in the community, state, and country. It includes 6 pages of text, 13 multiple choice/open-ended questions, and a 2-page cut-n-paste activity. A total of 8 students pages is included with an emphasis on what it means to be a good citizen.

The Three Branches of North Carolina Government
This product introduces students to the three branches of North Carolina government – Legislative, Executive, and Judicial, as well as, a comparison to our state and national government. Each branch is broken down into terms students can easily understand.

This product includes 3 reading comprehension/informational text pages with 24 multiple choice questions and 8 fill in the blank questions. (32 questions total) A graphic organizer of the 3 branches of government is also included to help students visually see the importance of these branches to our state and national government.

How a Bill Becomes a Law
This product introduces students to the process and steps it takes for a bill to become a law in North Carolina. I have included 6 pages of text for students to read with 20 multiple choice and open-ended questions aligned with the text. A separate activity is also included where students are required to number the step in order from 1-12 describing how an idea becomes a bill and then possibly a law.

The North Carolina State Constitution
This activity introduces the NC State Constitution to students, it’s hard to understand the constitution in its own wording. I have rewritten it in words that students can understand and comprehend. The background of our state constitution is given with regards to the 3 times it has been written. The three branches of government are included and it’s importance to our state and national government.
Vocabulary: amendment, revision
The text is broken down into sections based on each time it was written and the major amendments that were set forth at the time. Students are given 16 questions to answers – multiple choice and open ended which align with the text.

The United States Preamble compared to The North Carolina Preamble
This product introduces students to the United States and North Carolina Preamble. It includes: it’s purposes, principles and goals of government established by our national and state constitution. To gain better understanding, students are required to rewrite the Preamble in their “own” words. Help may be needed from the teacher and thesauruses are handy to have on hand.
Vocabulary: preamble
This activity begins by defining a preamble and explains the differences between the United States Preamble and the North Carolina Preamble. North Carolina Preamble reference cards are included for students. Students are required to rewrite the Preamble in their own words using a thesaurus.

The United States Bill of Rights & the North Carolina Declaration of Rights
This product is broken down into 2 parts. Part 1 includes background information on The United States Bill of Rights which an activity for students to complete comparing the constitutional words to explanations students can understand. Part 2 includes background information on The North Carolina Declaration of Rights and introduces the first 10 sections found in the Declaration of Rights.
Students are required to explain each section in their own words and how it could impact them as a citizen. A cut-n-paste activity is included which asks students to match the correct wording under the first 10 sections of the NC Declaration of Rights. An additional page is included which allows students to compare the first 10 sections of the NC Declaration of Rights to the US Bill of Rights, and where similarities and differences are found in each.
