It’s almost Mother’s Day, and my students spent yesterday working on a special craft just for mom! I make these flower pens with my class every year, and they’re always a HIT! I love how they turn out, and the best part is that they are C-H-E-A-P to make! Everything you need to make these pens can be found at the Dollar Store. I only spent $6 on this craft for 20 students!
The Dollar Store always has a variety of flowers to choose from. I usually just grab a bunch with different colors, because I encourage my students to pick mom’s favorite color! I keep a lot of ribbon on hand at all times. When I’m at Michaels I always go to the ribbon section and grab a few I like that’s on sale 50-75% off.
WARNING: Don’t purchase Bic pens for this project!!! The ends don’t easily pop out. I’ve literally had my husband sawing the ends off at 10:00 pm the night before this craft. You have to be able to pop the end out of the pen, and the Dollar Store pens that “resemble” Bic pens pop out the easiest!
Younger students may need a little help wrapping the pen. My 4th graders do a great job! They have to pull the tape tightly around the pen to get it to stick. Sometimes the tape breaks, but that’s okay just have them start again where it broke off.
I always do this part! Students and glue guns don’t mix! 🙂
And….that’s it! If you’d like to make this flower pen craft with your own students, you can download this gift tag for FREE here.
All done! Fast, easy, and cheap – what’s better than that? 🙂
What kinds of Mother’s Day crafts do you do with your class? I’d love to hear about them, and get some new ideas. Comment below!
